On our first day here at IFYI...
we've made plenty of new friendships and started our journey towards understanding interfaith relations.
We were surprised at how instantly the group of about 35 students (from both high school and college) fostered a welcoming and caring environment. After arrival Sunday afternoon, we learned each others names, and met with our affinity groups (Anna, Neha, Chelsea, and Mark from Merrimack College are all part of the college group). We also went to dinner, where we all satisfied our stomachs with ice cream. The Brandeis University dining hall also has a "kosher" side, where Jewish students can get their religiously traditional food.
We concluded the day with "evening circle" where we all gathered to hear a selection of written passages from various faiths, and also participate in an activity. The activity involed us to hold a rock and say a fear that you wish to sink, and hold a leaf and say a hope that you would like to float, and then drop them into the bowl of water.
